This time, I’m introducing COCOS FARM, a café combined with a houseplant shop in Sahara, Yokosuka.
The shop is located next to the Royal Host Yokosuka Sahara restaurant. Although it faces a busy main road, your impression changes completely the moment you step inside.
What awaits is a surprisingly peaceful space filled with plants. It is easy to forget that you are beside a busy road as you relax over lunch or a drink surrounded by greenery.

We received a warm welcome from Kosuke Kato and Aki Kato of COCOS FARM. They told us what inspired them to open the shop, how they feel about plants, and the ideas behind their café.
“The interior is far more peaceful than you would ever imagine from the busy street outside. Simply being surrounded by greenery made me feel completely at ease!”
Bringing a Plant Shop to Yokosuka—How COCOS FARM Grew from a Single Pot of Greenery
COCOS FARM did not begin as a café.
It started with the thought, “It would be wonderful to have a place in Yokosuka where people could choose plants.” The couple’s own interest in greenery began when they wanted a large plant for their newly built home.
The current shop was previously used as the office for Kosuke’s company. When the company relocated and the space became available, they decided to transform it into a plant shop.
Although working with plants was different from his main profession, Kosuke found that spending time with greenery helped him reset whenever he felt busy or stuck. An interest that began with searching for a single plant for their home eventually grew into a welcoming place for many people.
After COCOS FARM began as a plant shop, a café was added to make use of Aki’s culinary experience. Little by little, it developed into the space it is today, where visitors can enjoy a meal as well as browse the plants.
Charm 1 | Discover More Than 300 Varieties of Houseplants in a Shop That Changes Every Week
One of the greatest attractions of COCOS FARM is the selection of more than 300 varieties of houseplants displayed throughout the shop. The collection ranges from easy-to-grow options for first-time plant owners to unusual varieties with distinctive forms.
The owners visit the plant market every week, checking the new and rare varieties available before choosing what to bring back. Each plant is selected so that the shop never looks exactly the same from one visit to the next.
As a result, simply walking through the shop offers the chance to discover plants that are unique to that particular day. It is an enjoyable destination not only for anyone searching for a plant to take home, but also for visitors who simply want to see something rare and beautiful.
Charm 2 | A Peaceful Retreat Where Australian Café Culture Blends with Greenery
At COCOS FARM, the plant shop and café areas flow gently into one another. Greenery is arranged throughout the dining space, allowing guests to enjoy lunch or a drink while feeling close to the plants.
The café was inspired by the Australian café culture Kosuke experienced firsthand. His time there helped shape an interior where admiring plants and enjoying a meal blend together naturally.
Kosuke spent time in Australia, where he helped at a relative’s business and experienced life in the country. On later visits, he continued exploring local cafés and used advice from friends as inspiration when developing his own shop.
That experience can be seen in the café’s open kitchen, espresso machine, and Australian-inspired dishes.
Charm 3 | Popular COCOS FARM Dishes to Enjoy for Lunch
COCOS FARM offers more than plants—you can also sit down and enjoy a satisfying lunch. This time, we tried three dishes: Eggs Benedict, the COCOS Burger, and Coconut Chicken Curry.
The Eggs Benedict combines eggs and avocado with hollandaise sauce, creating a dish that captures the spirit of an Australian café. Colorful and inviting, it looked perfectly at home in the plant-filled setting. The price is 1,400 yen (1,540 yen including tax).
The COCOS Burger is a generous dish made with a 100% beef patty layered with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, and more. It is served with French fries and costs 1,600 yen (1,760 yen including tax).
As the signature dish bearing the café’s name, it is a tempting choice when you want a hearty lunch. The sight of all those ingredients stacked in generous layers makes it even more exciting.
The Coconut Chicken Curry is served with vegetables and offers a different kind of lunch from the burger. It costs 1,200 yen (1,320 yen including tax).
Iced coffee costs 400 yen, or an additional 200 yen with a lunch set. With an espresso machine in the café, you can enjoy freshly ground coffee.

At COCOS FARM, you can ask for advice not only while choosing a plant, but also about caring for it after your purchase.
What matters to Aki is not speaking only from the perspective of someone who already knows plants well, but understanding how it feels to be unsure. Since she also began by learning from scratch, she wants to support the concerns of people growing their first plant.
One plant she recommends for beginners is the Monstera. Knowing that you can ask for advice about choosing and caring for your plant, even after taking it home, is reassuring when searching for your very first one.
Charm 5 | A Place for Plants and Food, Shaped by the Couple’s Different Experiences
COCOS FARM brings together the individual experience of both husband and wife.
Because Kosuke has another main profession, he is not usually at the shop and instead contributes in areas such as menu development. Aki draws on her culinary experience while supporting both the plant shop and café.
Kosuke’s experience of Australian café culture, Aki’s background in cooking, and the couple’s shared interest in plants—which began when they searched for greenery for their own home—all came together to create the COCOS FARM of today.
They initially sold only plants, but later decided to open a café, believing that serving food would encourage more people to visit. Aki recalls feeling the joy of starting the café when customers told them that the dishes she and Kosuke created together were delicious.
“People who come to see the plants discover the food, while lunch guests may discover a new love of greenery. It felt like a place where wonderful connections naturally begin!”
COCOS FARM offers more than plants themselves. It creates time to admire greenery, enjoy a meal, and rest your mind amid everyday life.
Charm 6 | The Future Behind the Name—Growing Their Own Plants as a True “FARM”
The word “FARM” in the name COCOS FARM reflects the couple’s dream of one day transforming this place into a large farm.
At present, they purchase plants grown by producers at the market and sell them in the shop. In the future, they hope to do more than simply source plants—they want to gradually propagate and grow their own, then offer those plants for sale.
COCOS FARM began as a plant shop before adding a café. Going forward, the couple plans not only to sell plants but also to grow them with their own hands, gradually bringing the future envisioned in the name “FARM” to life.
“I cannot wait to see what kind of farm it becomes in the years ahead!”
Baby & Family Note
The café has 20 seats. At the time of our visit, we were unable to confirm whether strollers can be brought inside or whether children’s chairs, tableware, or diaper-changing facilities are available.
If you are planning to visit with a baby or arrange a gathering with other parents, we recommend contacting the café in advance and letting them know the size of your group and the number of strollers.
Dog-Friendly Information
Dogs are welcome only at the terrace seats. They are not permitted inside the café.
