Do you ever just want to have lunch while looking at the ocean?
“I just want a little change of mood today.”
That’s exactly the kind of day that led me to Bistro UMITO SOUTH HAYAMA, located right in front of Akiya Beach.
As you drive along the coast, a fresh white building suddenly appears.
A seaside bistro that just opened in May 2025.
The first thing that catches your eye when you step inside is the ocean stretching beyond the huge windows.
Honestly, it almost feels unfair.
The weather was beautiful that day, and the sea was sparkling.
The moment I sat down, I thought, “Yep… coming here was definitely the right choice.”

Highlight #1: Every seat has an ocean view. A lunch that feels like “eating the sea”

The first thing that impressed me was the incredible location.
The windows are huge, and you can see the ocean from every seat in the restaurant.
The counter seats especially feel like you’re floating above the sea.
I originally planned to sit at the counter too, but the midday sunlight was surprisingly strong, so I chose a table seat instead.
In fact, the guests sitting by the counter looked pretty dazzled by the sun, and eventually the shades were lowered.
But that just shows how close you are to the ocean.
It’s not simply “a restaurant with a view.”
You can actually feel the light, the waves, and the atmosphere of the sea itself.
The interior is also beautifully designed, with warm wooden textures and a calm atmosphere.
Even if you usually feel nervous about stylish seaside restaurants, this place has a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to settle in.

“Having lunch with this view really resets your mood.”
Highlight #2: The bouillabaisse soup is excellent. It really feels like proper French cuisine

This time, I ordered the lunch course (2,135 yen including tax).
The course included:
• Appetizer
• Bouillabaisse soup
• Niçoise salad
• Your choice of main dish
That was the basic set.
I also added:
• Homemade bread: 330 yen
• Iced coffee: 660 yen
The first thing that truly stood out was the bouillabaisse soup.
The seafood flavor was incredibly rich and concentrated.
I had seen reviews saying “the soup is amazing,” and honestly… they were right.
At lunch restaurants, the main dish usually gets all the attention.
But when the soup is this good, somehow you immediately trust the whole restaurant.
The Niçoise salad was refreshing as well.
Eating it while looking out at the ocean almost made me feel like I was traveling somewhere in the South of France.

Highlight #3: Genovese pasta and hamburger steak — a lunch experience where the scenery is part of the meal

This time, I ordered:
• Genovese pasta topped with sliced prosciutto
• Bistro UMITO’s special 100% beef hamburger steak
Both dishes were beautifully prepared.
The Genovese pasta had a wonderfully fresh basil aroma.
The saltiness and richness of the prosciutto balanced perfectly with the sauce.
Some reviews mentioned the “chewy texture” of the pasta, and I completely agreed. The texture was really satisfying.
The hamburger steak, on the other hand, was made with 100% beef.
It was finished with parsley lemon butter, giving it a refined French-style flavor.
To be completely honest though, the portions are on the smaller side.
Especially the hamburger steak — I found myself thinking, “Wait… it’s already gone?”

So I think this restaurant is especially perfect for:
• People who want to relax and enjoy the scenery
• Light eaters
• Casual lunch dates or girls’ lunches
On the other hand, if you’re very hungry or looking for a big meal, it might feel a little small.
But honestly, dining with this ocean view feels special no matter what.
It’s not just a lunch that fills your stomach.
It’s the kind of lunch that fills your mood too.
Highlight #4: Supervised by a Michelin-experienced chef — yet still wonderfully approachable

The chef supervising this restaurant is Koichi Adachi from “caillou.”
He trained at Michelin two-star restaurants including Joël Robuchon and Asahinagastrome.
Hearing that might make the restaurant sound intimidating.
But in reality, it feels surprisingly comfortable and relaxed.
The staff are warm and welcoming, and the whole place has an easy seaside atmosphere.
Rather than “luxury French dining,” it felt more like:
“A place where you can casually enjoy genuinely good food while looking at the sea.”
That was the impression it left on me.

“It’s the kind of place you’d visit not only for anniversaries, but also on days when you simply want to make the day feel a little more special.”

Baby & Family Note
Strollers are welcome.
The restaurant states that children are welcome as well, including babies, preschoolers, and elementary school kids.
The dining area feels spacious and open, making it relatively comfortable for families.
However, seats by the windows can become quite sunny during the daytime, so if you’re visiting with small children, it may be worth asking the staff about seating options.
Dog Information

Information about bringing dogs inside the restaurant has not been confirmed.
There was also no confirmed information about terrace seating.
