A Small Breakfast Spot by the Fishing Port, Open from 7:00 AM
This time, I’m introducing Choshoku Haruchan, a newly opened breakfast spot located right in front of Kotsubo Fishing Port in Zushi.
Follow the narrow streets of Kotsubo, and you’ll find fishermen’s huts, the sea, and a nostalgic old house tucked quietly between them. That house is the restaurant.
Take off your shoes and step inside, and it feels as warm and familiar as visiting your grandmother’s home. Since it opens from 7:00 AM, it is a rare and welcoming place to stop for breakfast before an early-morning walk or a day of exploring Kotsubo.

“There aren’t many places open early in this area, so being able to enjoy a warm breakfast from 7:00 AM is such a treat.”

Charm 1: Surprisingly Soft and Fluffy—The Steamed Bagel Takes Center Stage

I ordered the signature “Seiro Steamed Breakfast” for 1,000 yen. You can choose either a bagel or rice as your main staple, and this time I chose the multigrain bagel.
When you hear the word bagel, you may picture a firm, chewy texture. But this bagel, gently steamed in a bamboo steamer, was surprisingly soft, fluffy, and delightfully chewy. Wrapped in warm steam, its tenderness becomes obvious the moment you tear it apart by hand.
The owner also runs noRo BAGEL in Itabashi, Tokyo. After opening a guesthouse in Zushi, she decided to create this breakfast restaurant in Kotsubo.

Charm 2: Bagels with Pork Miso Soup? One Bite and It All Makes Sense

The plate comes with a multigrain bagel, hearty pork miso soup, an egg cooked over vegetables, tomato curry, and okara salad.
At first, I wondered, “Do bagels really go with pork miso soup?” But the nutty aroma of the multigrain bagel paired surprisingly well with the light, comforting soup, which never felt too heavy for breakfast. Finished with fresh ginger, the soup was carefully created to complement both bagels and rice.
Top the bagel with a little tomato curry or okara salad, and you can enjoy several different flavors from a single plate.

“There were so many little toppings to try that I found myself wondering what combination to make next. It made breakfast feel playful and fun.”

Charm 3: Cream Cheese and Sweet Red Bean Paste Turn the Bagel into a Little Dessert

I also added a set of cream cheese and smooth sweet red bean paste. The gentle saltiness of the cream cheese and the silky sweetness of the red bean paste were a perfect match for the warm bagel.
After enjoying the bagel as part of the meal, finishing with something sweet was a lovely touch. Pair it with an iced café au lait for 500 yen, and breakfast slowly turns into a relaxing café break.
For takeaway, I also bought a multigrain bagel, a plain bagel, and a cheese and sweet red bean bagel. It was wonderful to bring home the flavors I had enjoyed at the restaurant.
Charm 4: A Nostalgic Space That Blends Naturally into Everyday Life in Kotsubo
Rather than a polished seaside café, this is a breakfast spot that feels naturally woven into daily life in Kotsubo.
Fishermen’s huts line the outside, with glimpses of the sea appearing between them. On clear days, colorful fishing flags are displayed, making them a helpful landmark when searching for the restaurant.
The interior is centered around counter seating, which creates a friendly closeness with the staff. Instead of a luxurious breakfast, it feels like sitting down to a warm meal that someone has carefully prepared just for you.

Charm 5: Haruchan’s New Chapter, Born from a Bagel Shop and Guesthouse

After running a bagel shop in Tokyo, the owner opened Haruchan, a guesthouse with breakfast in Zushi. In June 2026, she then opened Choshoku Haruchan in Kotsubo.
The guesthouse breakfast, featuring soft and chewy bagels with soup, had already become popular with guests. That experience eventually grew into a breakfast restaurant where both local residents and visitors could stop by.
The name “Haruchan” comes from the owner’s daughter. That small family story feels perfectly suited to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant.

“Although it is a new restaurant, it somehow feels as if it has always been part of the neighborhood. It was such a calming place.”
Baby & Family Note

We have not yet confirmed whether the restaurant is suitable for families with children. It is located inside a traditional house where guests remove their shoes, and most of the seating is at the counter.
We have also not confirmed whether strollers can be brought inside or whether children’s chairs are available. If you are planning to visit with a young child, we recommend contacting the restaurant through Instagram in advance.
The relaxed atmosphere seems well suited to a family walk around Kotsubo or a quiet breakfast with a small group.
Dog-Friendly Information
We have not yet confirmed whether dogs are allowed inside or whether terrace seating is available.
The area around Kotsubo Fishing Port is lovely for a walk, but if you would like to visit with your dog, please contact the restaurant in advance.

Summary: A Gentle New Place for Breakfast in Kotsubo

Choshoku Haruchan is a new breakfast spot in Kotsubo where you can enjoy soft steamed bagels and hearty pork miso soup.
Although it sits right by the sea, the charm here is not glamorous resort style. Instead, you can experience the everyday atmosphere of the fishing port and the warmth of an old Japanese house.
On an early morning or before exploring Kotsubo, stop for a comforting meal prepared with care. Whenever you need a quiet moment and a warm breakfast, this is a place worth remembering.
