Have you ever thought, “I wish there were a place where I could reset my mood during a weekday lunch,” or “It’s hard to find cafés where I can go with my dog”?
Today, I’d like to introduce a small Italian café and kitchen by the sea in Horiuchi, Hayama: TRAMONTO MARE HAYAMA.
I visited for a weekday lunch, and while the food was wonderful, what stayed with me most was the warmth of the owner. By the time I left, it felt like my shoulders had relaxed just a little.
A small Italian by the sea, where you can slow down and breathe.
TRAMONTO MARE HAYAMA is a compact restaurant centered around counter seating.
Inside, there are counter seats, and outside, a terrace where you can feel the presence of the sea as you dine.

Don’t you feel that small places set the mood the moment you step inside? This one felt like it was quietly saying, “Take your time.”
Attraction ① Lunch menus that are easy to choose, at a comfortable price range

Lunch is limited in quantity and ends once sold out.
On this visit, I ordered the Tramonto Plate Lunch for 1,700 yen (tax included) and the daily gratin lunch for 1,400 yen (tax included).
The sets are simple and easy to choose, which makes it comfortable to drop by without overthinking.
It feels flexible enough for days when you want a proper meal, and also for days when you prefer something lighter.

Attraction ② More than just food: the owner’s “second life” shapes the atmosphere
To be honest, there are now quite a few small Italian restaurants in Hayama that serve good food.
But TRAMONTO MARE HAYAMA felt different—it has a reason that makes you want to come back and see the person behind it.
The owner did not spend his entire career as a chef. He previously worked as a company employee, traveling to Italy many times for work, gradually deepening his love for Italian culture and food.
After experiencing the exhaustion that can come from organizations and human relationships, he chose to pursue what he truly loved—cooking—and realized that dream here in Hayama. That background quietly seeps into the atmosphere of the restaurant.
Because it is often run by one person, the space stays small and manageable, and conversations arise naturally.
Regular customers drop in, chat for a bit, laugh, and head home. There is a warmth that makes you want to be part of that scene.

Just taking photos of the food and leaving would be such a waste here. If you can, try saying just one word to the owner. You’ll probably want to come back.
Attraction ③ Terrace seating is dog-friendly, perfect for a stop during walks

The terrace seating is dog-friendly.
For those looking for places in Hayama where dogs are welcome, this is a big plus.
Stopping by during a walk, enjoying lunch or café time while feeling the sea breeze.
It’s a place that turns your “usual walk” into something just a little more special.
Attraction ④ A café time that fits perfectly between busy schedules
After lunch, café time is available from 14:00 to 16:00.
For full-time moms who think, “Lunch spots are crowded,” or “I just want a short tea break before picking up the kids,” this time slot is especially convenient.
Since seating is limited, reservations are recommended if you plan to visit with a group.
Baby & Kids Note

Because this is a compact restaurant with limited seating, it’s best to choose less crowded times when visiting with babies or children.
The interior is mainly counter seating, so stroller access and seating arrangements are not confirmed. If needed, it’s best to ask when making a reservation.
Dog Information
Dogs are welcome on the terrace seating.
Whether dogs are allowed inside has not been confirmed.
Note for Shop Owners
As the restaurant is often run by one person, guests may occasionally be asked for light, self-service style cooperation depending on the situation.
This small scale allows for thoughtful operation and a comfortable sense of distance between guests and the owner.
There is also guidance to let the staff know if you would like takeout.
