Have you ever felt like going a little beyond Hayama or Zushi because you’re craving truly great Japanese beef?

This time, I’m introducing UMI USHI AKIYA, a yakiniku restaurant in Akiya known for its carefully selected A5 Wagyu.

Because it’s directly managed by a long-established butcher shop, the quality and value are exceptional. I visited to see if it truly lives up to the reputation.

Attraction 1: A5 Wagyu Excellence Backed by a Meguro Butcher

From the sourcing stage, the meat is carefully selected by professionals, resulting in a noticeably higher level of quality.

I ordered the premium A5 Wagyu assortment.

From the very first bite, the tenderness and the sweetness of the fat were unmistakable.

“If this were in central Tokyo, it would definitely cost more,” I honestly thought.

High-end Wagyu at a price that still feels accessible — that’s the biggest appeal of UMI USHI.

This time, I ordered the assorted namul (780 yen), yukgaejang soup (800 yen), and the premium A5 Wagyu platter (3,680 yen). Every dish felt worth more than its price, and I truly experienced the quality only a butcher-run restaurant can deliver.

Attraction 2: Even the Namul and Soup Are Impressive

Let’s start with the assorted namul.

It may look simple, but each seasoning was carefully balanced — the kind of flavor that makes you want another drink.

Then came the yukgaejang soup.

Rich in umami with a satisfying level of spice, it pairs perfectly with grilled meat.

Reviews also praise dishes like the white senmai sashimi and premium sliced tongue (Source: Tabelog reviews),

which gave me the impression that the menu beyond beef is just as thoughtfully prepared.

Attraction 3: Almost No Smoke? Surprisingly Comfortable Roaster System

When you think of yakiniku, you probably imagine smoke clinging to your clothes.

At UMI USHI, however, each table is equipped with an extended suction system, so the smoke is barely noticeable.

There are also spotlights carefully positioned above the grills.

They highlight the meat beautifully, making it look even more appetizing — and perfect for photos.

“Was yakiniku always this comfortable?” I genuinely wondered.

Attraction 4: A Hidden House-Style Yakiniku Spot in Quiet Akiya

The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet residential area just off the main road.

Even though I’ve driven through Akiya many times, I had never noticed it before.

There is parking in front of the restaurant, but the road is narrow.

According to the official information, you can also park at Kanagawa Prefectural Tateishi Parking (free) and walk about 6 minutes. (Source: Store information)

Since the number of seats is limited, making a reservation is highly recommended.

Especially on weekends and in the evening, it’s safer to book in advance.

Just a minute’s walk behind the restaurant, you’ll find the Akiya coastline.

Taking a seaside stroll after yakiniku is a simple but special luxury you can only enjoy here.

With Babies & Kids

The restaurant is set in a house-style building and does not have a large number of seats.

Because the space is compact, reservations are recommended for group gatherings such as moms’ lunches.

Stroller accessibility is unconfirmed, so please contact the restaurant directly before visiting.

For Dog Owners

Whether dogs are allowed inside is currently unconfirmed.

Terrace seating is also unconfirmed, so if you plan to visit with your dog, please contact the restaurant in advance.

For Restaurant Owners: The Strength of a Clear Identity

Being directly connected to a Tokyo-based meat wholesaler is a powerful advantage in a regional setting.

A restaurant with a strong story and clear product quality naturally stands out.

In a location like Akiya, offering this level of Wagyu already creates clear differentiation.

If you run a restaurant yourself, this is definitely a place worth experiencing firsthand.
