PLAGE SUD — A Refined Seaside Lunch Overlooking Sagami Bay

Peli

Hello, this is Peli from Hayama Navi!<br>We bring you stories of wonderful spots in Hayama.

Today, let me introduce an incredible Italian restaurant with an ocean view — PLAGE SUD, located in Akiya, just next to Hayama.

If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy a delicious paella while gazing at the sea, there’s no better place than this.

For me, this is the kind of place you take someone special to.

On this day, my best friend from middle and high school was visiting from Tokyo — a long-awaited reunion.

A miraculous lunch with a friend who ended up in Odawara

We planned to meet at Zushi Station.

When I called her asking, “Where are you? I’m at the ticket gate,” her first words were, “I’m in Odawara…”

Odawara!? Really?

She had accidentally boarded the Tokaido Line instead of the Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Shinjuku.

At that moment, the image of the paella we were supposed to share completely vanished from my mind (laughs).

But when I quickly called the restaurant to explain, the chef kindly said, “No problem, we haven’t started prep yet,” with a warm laugh.

That flexible all-day service saved us.

Our pre-ordered paella was still reserved and waiting for us — such a relief!

Two hours later, my friend finally arrived in Akiya.

When we entered, the chef and staff greeted us with bright smiles, saying, “We’ve been waiting for you!”

That single moment turned me into a loyal fan of this restaurant.

Where the sea and the cuisine share the spotlight

From the large windows stretches a breathtaking panoramic view of Sagami Bay.

The sound of the waves becomes background music, giving the entire dining room the atmosphere of a seaside resort.

On sunny days, the sea glitters as if it were made of light itself.

Even the bubbles in our glasses of champagne reflected the shimmer of the ocean — a moment of pure bliss.

“Hey, this doesn’t even feel like Japan anymore,” my friend said — and I couldn’t help but laugh and agree.

Highlight ①: Signature seafood paella — reservation highly recommended!

When you think of PLAGE SUD, you think of their richly flavored seafood paella.

The savory essence of the ocean seeps into every grain of rice, and when you scoop it up, the aroma of the sea fills the air.

The crispy, caramelized bottom layer is especially irresistible.

As it takes about 40 minutes to prepare, advance reservation is strongly advised.

I pre-ordered the paella when booking by phone, so even though we were late, it was served at the perfect moment — piping hot and fragrant.

The waiter’s words, “Please take your time and enjoy,” warmed my heart even more than the food itself.

Highlight ②: Local seasonal ingredients bring the dishes to life

Here’s what we ordered that day:

  • Spicy penne with tomato sauce (¥1,800)
  • Local octopus salad with house dressing (¥1,800)
  • Tuna carpaccio with anchovy sauce (¥1,600)
  • Japanese A5 Wagyu sirloin steak (¥3,900)

Every dish features fresh, locally sourced ingredients from the Miura Peninsula, beautifully balanced in both flavor and presentation.

The tuna carpaccio’s combination of arugula and anchovy sauce was exquisite — a perfect match for white wine.

The steak, infused with a hint of soy sauce, married Japanese and Western tastes seamlessly. The chef’s precision in grilling brought out the full umami of the meat.

“Next time, let’s come for dinner and watch the sunset,” we promised each other with a smile.

Highlight ③: The comfort of all-day dining

In the Hayama, Zushi, and Akiya areas, many restaurants close between lunch and dinner, but PLAGE SUD stays open all day.

This makes it ideal for late lunches or a post-beach meal with an ocean breeze.

Even though we arrived hours later than planned, the staff remained cheerful and accommodating the whole time.

The kindness of people here feels like part of the meal itself.

For families with babies and kids

Though the restaurant offers a calm, elegant atmosphere, families with children are warmly welcomed.

Strollers can be folded and left near the entrance for convenience.

The menu includes mild-flavored pasta and risotto, making it easy to share dishes with little ones.

With a view of the sea and a relaxed pace, it’s a wonderful setting for moms to gather for lunch while kids enjoy the view too.

Pet information

Some past reviews mention that small dogs were once allowed on the terrace, but this has not been confirmed. Please check with the restaurant directly before visiting with your pet.

Pets are not allowed inside, but the parking area offers a sea view, making it a pleasant stop for those walking along the coast.

On sunny days, taking a seaside stroll before lunch here is a perfect way to enjoy Akiya’s laid-back charm.

PLAGE SUD perfectly blends great food, stunning scenery, and warm hospitality — a true gem by the sea.

It’s the place locals and visitors alike think of when they want to celebrate a special day.

Prices are on the higher side, but every time I remember the sparkle of that champagne and our laughter, I know it was worth it.

If you want to sip wine while listening to the sound of the waves, sharing stories as the light fades, this is the spot. A destination that makes every visit feel like a small celebration.
