Today, let me introduce “Tsukushi,” a long-standing Japanese izakaya located just 3 minutes on foot from Zushi Station. Established in 1951, this beloved spot offers the rare perk of being open all day from lunch through dinner.

Ever found yourself thinking, “Where can I eat at this hour?”—especially after the usual lunch hours? That’s exactly when Tsukushi comes to the rescue. I dropped in around 3 PM and was happily surprised!

Although the exterior may feel a bit old-fashioned, inside you’ll find a warm, inviting vibe and cheerful young staff who make everyone feel welcome. The counter seating also makes it easy to dine solo.

Highlight #1: All-Day Set Meals

The biggest perk of dining at Tsukushi is that you can order from the lunch set menu any time of day.

For instance, I had the:

Sashimi Set Meal (1,100 yen).

The types of fish vary depending on the day’s catch, but they’re always fresh and delicious. Side dishes are included too, making it very satisfying.

If you’ve missed the lunch rush and want a proper meal, Tsukushi is here for you.

There’s something comforting about eating a full set meal at 3 PM…

I thought I’d missed lunch for sure—but what a lifesaver!

Highlight #2: Sip and Relax in Retro Japanese Vibes

The interior of Tsukushi is the very definition of a classic Japanese izakaya.

Wooden counters, handwritten menus, vintage decor—you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into the Showa era. You might even spot a few locals enjoying sake before sundown.

But don’t worry—you can just come for a meal too. When I visited, about half the customers were just having lunch, and the other half were enjoying a casual drink.

The menu includes local fish fry sets and hearty tuna chunks, which I definitely want to try next time!

Feature #3: More Than Set Meals – Extensive Side Dish Menu

In addition to hearty set meals, Tsukushi also offers a wide variety of side dishes perfect for a night out.

Here are just a few examples:

  • Kushi-katsu (deep-fried skewers) – 450 yen
  • Stewed fish – 700 yen
  • Whole dried sardines – 500 yen

All of them are **reasonably priced and comforting**—a taste of home in every bite.

The drink menu is also extensive, featuring everything from **draft beer in jumbo mugs** to dry sake and sweet potato shochu—perfectly suited for traditional Japanese food.

I’m definitely coming back for kushi-katsu and a cold beer next time!

Baby & Family-Friendly Notes

The traditional layout of the restaurant might make **stroller access a bit challenging**, but if the second-floor tatami room is available, you’re in luck! With prior reservation, it can even be **converted into a private room** with partitions.

Instead of a loud mom-friend meet-up, this place is perfect for a **relaxed family meal** or a casual gathering with relatives.

The second floor tatami room now has sunken seating, making it easier for families and seniors to relax!

Dog-Friendly Info

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed inside the restaurant. If you’re out for a walk with your furry friend, it’s best to leave them at home when visiting this spot.
