Relax in a Grand Lounge Overlooking Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji
This time, I ventured beyond Hayama to visit one of my favorite getaways — the lounge bar at Yama-no-Hotel in Hakone. It was my fifth visit, and once again, I was enchanted by the breathtaking view of Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji, the large fireplace, the soaring ceiling, and the elegant sofas that invite you to unwind in style.
Let me take you through a serene afternoon filled with spring-exclusive sweets and a touch of luxury.

Highlight #1: A Fireplace Lounge Full of Character

The first thing that catches your eye as you enter the lounge is the grand fireplace with its stately mantle. The sound of crackling firewood instantly makes you feel cozy and welcome.
With high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, the space opens out to the hotel’s gardens, Lake Ashi, and on clear days, even Mount Fuji.
You wouldn’t expect such a natural, immersive view from a hotel lounge! It truly blends elegance and the great outdoors.

The contrast between the crisp mountain air and the warmth of the fireplace was so soothing — I ended up staying much longer than planned!

Highlight ②: Signature Hot Apple Pie & Original Cream Puff

We ordered two desserts: the seasonal Rosage Hot Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream and the hotel’s beloved Original Cream Puff.
The apple pie features baked apple slices over a thin tart crust with almond cream, topped with vanilla ice cream—striking a perfect balance of sweet and tart (¥1,600 for a la carte / ¥2,550 with drink set).
The cream puff was also a delight, with a crispy, aromatic shell and rich, creamy filling. Made with Asagiri milk, the vanilla-scented custard delivers that unmistakable hotel-grade richness (¥750 a la carte / ¥1,700 with drink set).

It was a bit pricey—but hey, we all deserve a little luxury once in a while!

Attraction ③: Breathtaking Views of Mt. Fuji from the Terrace

The lounge at Yama-no-Hotel boasts a prime location overlooking Lake Ashi and the garden.
On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of the majestic Mt. Fuji beyond the lake.
Although the view was slightly hazy during our visit, it is said to be absolutely breathtaking when the skies are clear.
The lounge features large windows, high ceilings, and a spacious, airy atmosphere. The terrace offers a view of a vibrant garden filled with blooming azaleas and roses—perfect for enjoying sweets outdoors.

Attraction ④: A Historic Garden Blooming Year-Round

The hotel’s garden, originally part of the Iwasaki family’s villa, is a historic landscaped treasure.
In spring, it’s filled with roughly 3,000 azalea bushes. Summer brings rhododendrons and hydrangeas, autumn boasts vibrant foliage, and winter offers crisp views of Mt. Fuji—a stunning destination throughout all four seasons.
Come June, the rose garden also reaches peak bloom, showcasing 30 varieties and 200 rose bushes.
