If you’re looking for lunch in Zushi, I highly recommend “Tonkatsu Hikonoya”. Opened in 2021, this is not just an ordinary tonkatsu restaurant. It’s truly a “tonkatsu revolution”, offering a whole new experience of tonkatsu like you’ve never tasted before!
The first time I visited “Hikonoya”, I was amazed by their innovative menu and attention to detail. Today, I’m excited to share all the unique charms of this restaurant with you!

Attraction 1: Revolutionary “White Tonkatsu”

When you think of “tonkatsu,” you usually imagine crispy golden-fried pork, but at “Hikonoya,” the tonkatsu is fried at a low temperature to create a “white tonkatsu.”
The cross-section of the tonkatsu is light pink, which is quite unique. But don’t worry—it’s cooked through slowly, ensuring it’s fully done inside.
“White tonkatsu” is a dish with a level of tenderness and juiciness you’ve never experienced before. I was deeply impressed by the quality of the meat and the unique cooking method.

This is the softest tonkatsu I’ve ever had! It’s truly revolutionary!
Attraction 2: Commitment to Fresh Oil

At “Hikonoya,” they replace the oil used for frying tonkatsu between lunch and dinner. This commitment ensures that the oil stays clean and transparent, which elevates the quality of the fried food. By changing the oil every time, they maintain freshness and consistency in the flavors.
Thanks to this dedication, the tonkatsu is not greasy, and you can enjoy a light and crispy texture. This is a testament to the owner’s passion for providing the best dining experience.

I’ve never eaten tonkatsu fried in such clean oil before. You can really taste the difference in the quality!

Attraction 3: Tender and Juicy Meat

At “Hikonoya,” they use Chiba’s “Hayashi SPF Pork”. Raised on a grain-based diet, this pork is known for its sweet, light fat and extremely tender meat. The tonkatsu made from this pork bursts with juicy flavor as soon as you take a bite.
In particular, “Hiren” and “Rosu” cuts showcase the rich flavor of the meat, making them perfect for those who want to enjoy the natural sweetness of the pork.
Attraction 4: Carefully Crafted Menu and Cooking

“Hikonoya” offers a variety of dishes beyond classic tonkatsu, including menchi katsu, oyster fries, and shrimp fries, all made with attention to detail and bursting with flavor.
Especially the “menchi katsu” is surprisingly juicy. When you take a bite, the rich pork flavor fills your mouth, providing a satisfying and fulfilling experience.
Attraction 5: Convenient Location and Easy Access

“Tonkatsu Hikonoya” is just 23 meters from Zushi Station, making it a perfect spot for lunch. Although there’s no parking available, there are coin-operated parking lots nearby, so it’s convenient even by car.
Also, they are closed on Mondays and the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month, so it’s a good idea to check their Instagram for hours before visiting.
