The name “Uosaji” alone will remind many Zushi and Hayama residents of the fish shop in front of Zushi’s train station. Today I introduce you to Uosaji, a Japanese-style restaurant owned by a well-known fish store in Zushi.
This restaurant from a fishmonger serves up exceptionally fresh and generous portions of fish dishes.
This time, an important friend of mine came from Tokyo and asked for seafood! and I instantly headed to Uosaji.
If I want to eat fish in Zushi Hayama area, I have no choice but to go to Uosaji!
『Uosaji』introduction
Location
Uosaji is located in the fishing port town of Kotsubo, near Zushi Marina.
It is a busy area with several restaurants in the neighborhood that are famous for their seafood. It was originally a fisherman’s restaurant. With the development of the Zushi Marina, the area has opened up to the general public.
All the restaurants in the vicinity are crowded, and I went to all the famous ones! All of them had their good points and bad points, but Uosaji has a good balance. I couldn’t find anything bad about it.
Zushi Marina has a road with palm trees as a symbol, so you can take good pictures.
It takes about 30 minutes from Zushi and Kamakura station respectively on foot. It is a nice walking course with a view of the sea ♡I always go there on foot from Hayama.
Of course, buses are also available.
Establishment
Uosaji, a fish shop in front of Zushi Station, has a history of over 100 years and has been a symbol of Zushi for the past 70 years.
This “Japanese Cuisine Uosaji” has been in business for a quarter of a century.
The history of this restaurant, which has long satisfied the stomachs of fishermen and locals and is now very popular with tourists, is very impressive.
Introduction
The restaurant has the appearance of a purely Japanese-style house. You can feel the history in the old house. The inside is also Japanese style and looks like a foreigner’s delight.
This is a trendy old private house restaurant. This “Uosaji” is not just an old private house that has been restored, but it has been a part of history along with the building itself. It has a different weight from an old private house café.
The restaurant has a total of 45 seats: 10 counter seats, 20 tatami seat, and 15 table seats. It is reasonably spacious, but on the weekday noon when I visited, the restaurant was packed right after opening.
I think the turnover is not that slow, so be prepared to wait! It is worth the wait.
If you don’t want to wait, I recommend waiting in front of the restaurant about 30 minutes before opening on weekends and holidays.
t is a good idea to go at 11:30, when the restaurant opens, even on weekdays!
The interior of the restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. The randomly posted menus are also very nice.
The meal is, of course, seafood!
The menu is, of course, seafood. The sashimi set meal, fried fish set meal, and “Kaisen Chirashi” (sushi rice in a bowl with a variety of seafood ingredients sprinkled on top) are the standard lunch items.
You can also order individual items.
Fresh sashimi is a must, but fried fish also appeals to me. So I ordered the sashimi set meal, and the fried horse mackerel as an individual dish. It was a great decision!
This is the sashimi platter set meal. Tuna is included in this set meal. I believe this tuna is from Misaki, as Uosaji sources fish from local fishing ports, as well as tuna from the Hakkeijima market and Misaki. Misaki Tuna are very famous around here.
The sashimi was thick and plump.
And one thing you can’t miss is the fried horse mackerel. Fresh horse mackerel is used.
The crispy outside and fluffy inside make this a must order. 400 yen per fish is also very reasonable.
I ordered the “Kaisen Bara Chirashi” for 1,450 yen! This is really, really good value. The cost performance is too high.
I have eaten “Kaisen Chirashi” at many places, but all of them were expensive but the taste was not so good, so I was afraid of making a mistake.
But this time, I had the courage to order it. The “Kaisen Chirashi” at “Uosaji” is my favorite because all the ingredients are fresh. I highly recommend it to everyone.
And it’s not just the fish that is delicious at Uosaji, but the rice as well. The high quality of the rice enhances the seafood even more.
Baby and child note
This is a restaurant where babies and children are welcome! We have a small room so it is easy for families with babies and children to spend time together. There is a parking lot for easy access.

Summary
This is an introduction to the excellent Japanese seafood restaurant “Japanese Cuisine Uosaji” in Zushi, a neighboring town to Hayama.
The restaurant is directly owned by Zushi’s landmark fishmonger, Uosaji, and has been in operation for nearly a quarter of a century. There are many seafood restaurants around, but this is my top recommendation!
Enjoy fresh seafood dishes from the local and nearby seas.
It is the best place I can recommend!
