Hayama is home to many charming cafés, but “tomokoubou cafe & gallery” is in a league of its own—stepping inside feels like walking into a storybook. Created by ceramic artist Tomoko Sano, this café is known for its handcrafted tableware, whimsical decor, and beautifully plated crepes and drinks.

When I visited, I was instantly enchanted. “I can’t believe such an adorable café exists!” The moment you step inside, you forget that it’s located along a busy road. The warm and inviting atmosphere, filled with rabbit and floral motifs, makes it feel like a secret hideaway.

Let me take you on a journey through this charming café!

Charm ①: Adorable Handcrafted Tableware by a Ceramic Artist

“tomokoubou cafe & gallery” is not just a café—it’s a living art space designed by ceramic artist Tomoko Sano. Every plate, cup, and decorative piece used here is one of her creations.

For example, you’ll find tea cups adorned with tiny rabbits and **plates shaped like delicate flowers**. Each piece exudes warmth and brings a sense of joy to your dining experience.

“Opening a café had been my long-time dream. I wanted to serve guests with my handcrafted ceramics, creating a truly special dining experience,” says Sano.

The entire interior is like an art exhibition, with Sano’s works seamlessly incorporated into the space. The second floor serves as a gallery, where visitors can admire and even purchase some of her stunning ceramics.

The world of Tomoko Sano is pure magic. I fell in love with every single plate and piece of decor!

Charm ②: The Must-Try “Marumaru Crepe”

One of the café’s absolute must-tries is the “Marumaru Crepe.” Among the various options, the most popular is the “Ringo Marumaru” (600 yen).

This **whole simmered apple** is wrapped in a delicate crepe and paired with caramel sauce and mascarpone cream. The contrast between the **tangy sweetness of the apple** and the **soft, chewy crepe** makes for an unforgettable bite.

“The apple is incredibly juicy and flavorful! Just one bite fills you with happiness.”

Other delightful crepe options include:

  • Milk Crepe
  • Hot Crepe
  • Cold Crepe
  • Savory Crepes
  • Buckwheat Galettes

The variety is so extensive that choosing just one can be a challenge!

Charm ③: The Adorable 3D Bunny Chocolate Milk

Beyond the beautiful ceramics and delicious crepes, the drinks at tomokoubou cafe & gallery are a feast for the eyes. The most Instagram-worthy option? The 3D Bunny Chocolate Milk (700 yen).

This charming drink features a fluffy bunny made from milk foam, floating on top of a rich chocolate milk base. The little bunny’s **cute chocolate eyes** seem to follow you as you take a sip!

“This is an absolute must-try!”

The foam slowly melts away as time passes, so make sure to snap a photo quickly before your bunny disappears! You can also ask for a bunny foam addition on other drinks, making every order extra special.

The moment my bunny melted into the milk, I felt a surprising sense of loss. But don’t worry—you can always order another one! ☕🐰
