This time, I’d like to introduce a charming new shop tucked right behind Hayama Station — “Tamada Crepe Hayama” (@tamada.crepe.hayama)!

It’s located in a cozy corner of “Hayama Factory,” surrounded by forested hills. The air is filled with the scent of roasted beans, the breeze over the wooden deck, and the warmth of a freshly made crêpe in your hands — all capturing the spirit of Hayama, where nature and people gently connect.

You might think, “Why a crêpe shop here, in the woods?” But there’s a beautiful reason behind it — this crêpe stand is designed to bring the community together in a new, inclusive way.

Highlight ①: A Crêpe Shop Born from a Community Work-Support Program

Hayama Factory, where it stands, was once an empty house revived through local hands. Residents joined together to build it through DIY efforts, creating a warm community space. Out of this spirit, a new workplace open to everyone was born — this crêpe shop.

Facility manager Shinichi Tamada says, “We just wanted a place where everyone could share a meal.” The shop was built by hand, using local ingredients and helping hands. Every crêpe baked here carries a bit of that community care — a small act of social contribution folded into something delicious.

What struck me most was how everyone here — baking, eating, chatting — feels like part of the story. The warmth is contagious.

Highlight ②: The True Star Is the Batter — Organic Whole Wheat and Homemade Ghee

The soul of Tamada Crepe lies in its crispy, paper-thin batter.

They use a blend of organic Japanese whole wheat flour, enriched with homemade ghee — slowly simmered butter from Hokkaido Yotsuba dairy. Each bite releases a nutty aroma and the gentle sweetness of wheat. Whether you choose sweet or savory, the batter itself is what makes every flavor shine.

The menu follows the franchise of “Yamaguchi Crepe” (based in Ichikawa, Chiba, with about 80 stores nationwide), while adding original Hayama-style twists. Local favorites include “Honto-no-Choco,” “Cinnamon Sugar,” and a special crêpe with homemade syrup made from locally harvested ume plums.

I went for the “Cinnamon Sugar” with a little chocolate topping — simple, but the harmony of sweetness and toasty flavor was just perfect.

Highlight ③: Homemade Drinks Worth a Stop — Try the Ume Soda

Pair your crêpe with their Homemade Ume Soda (¥480), made using syrup prepared inside the “Hangout” facility. Its gentle tartness is refreshing and perfectly complements the sweetness of the crêpes.

They also serve creamy banana juice and herbal teas made from carefully selected ingredients. On sunny days, grab your drink and relax on the wooden deck benches — a moment of calm you’ll rarely find in the city.

Highlight ④: The Story Behind the Name “Tamada Crepe”

Among the nationwide “Yamaguchi Crepe” franchise family, each shop is given the freedom to choose its own name — a reflection of the owner’s individuality.

The name “Tamada Crepe” carries the heart of owner Shinichi Tamada. Opening a crêpe stand was his first step toward building a community-style cafeteria where everyone belongs. He hopes to eventually expand into a full dining space. (Source: Zushi Hayama Economic Newspaper)

It takes courage to put your own name on a shop. You can feel his determination — a quiet promise to root himself deeply in this town.

For Families with Babies and Kids

Both the indoor and outdoor spaces are stroller-friendly, with ample room to move around. Parking is available, and all crêpes can be taken to-go — perfect for families. The entire area is smoke-free, ensuring a safe and relaxing environment surrounded by nature.

There’s also a lovely kids’ play area inside the facility.

It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy a mini camping vibe while your kids play freely nearby.

Dog-Friendly Info

The outdoor terrace (wood deck) welcomes dogs. Many visitors stop by during their forest walks. Just keep your dog on a leash, and everyone can enjoy the calm atmosphere. You can also take your crêpe to go and relax with your pet in the nearby open space.
