Hayanavi usually features places around Hayama, but this time we visited *Spice Tree – a popular curry spot in Zushi.
This restaurant is always bustling with customers. Luckily, we went for a late lunch on a weekday and were seated right away, but on weekends, expect to wait up to an hour. For curry lovers, this is a must-visit destination!

1. Attraction #1: From Mild to Spicy! Incredible Butter Chicken and Mutton Keema

Here’s what we ordered:
- Butter Chicken (Mild): ¥1,500
- Mutton Keema with Nepal Pepper (Medium Spicy): ¥1,760
The Butter Chicken has a perfect blend of tomato tang, cashew nuts, and butter. Even those who aren’t fans of spicy food can enjoy this dish.
Meanwhile, the Mutton Keema is a spicy, flavor-packed delight.
Its distinct kick of Nepal pepper makes it irresistible for spice lovers!

The owner suggested mixing the Mutton and Butter Chicken curry to tone down the spice – and it was amazing! If you’re visiting with someone, definitely order both!

2. Attraction #2: Unique Spice Blends Crafted with Passion

What makes Spice Tree’s curry special is the unique spice blends created by the owner. A variety of spices—sometimes dozens—are meticulously mixed to suit each dish. It’s like a scientific experiment, with careful adjustments leading to the perfect recipe.
For example, the Mutton Curry uses Nepal Pepper, adding a distinctive aroma and flavor that sets it apart from ordinary curries. Side dishes are also infused with spices, allowing you to savor a medley of flavors in every bite.
The restaurant doesn’t just serve curry—it offers an experience of tasting spices. A guide on “How to Enjoy Spice Curry” is available at the entrance, making it easy for first-timers to dive right in.

3. Attraction #3: A Perfect Harmony of Side Dishes for Maximum Satisfaction

At Spice Tree, the curry plates come as a set featuring main curry, dal (lentil curry), three types of side dishes, papad (Indian rice cracker), and basmati rice. One of the highlights is how the side dishes elevate the flavor of the main curry.
The refreshing pickled vegetables, spiced potatoes, and other side dishes cleanse your palate, preparing you for the next bite. This balance allows you to enjoy the meal without becoming overwhelmed by the rich flavors. The owner even mentioned, “The side dishes are like supporting actors for the curry. Try mixing them to create your own unique flavor combination!”
Inspired by this advice, I mixed the butter chicken with a bit of the sides—and the result was phenomenal! The interplay of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors kept every bite exciting. This creative eating style is something only Spice Tree can offer.

Mixing different elements on the plate really changes the flavors! Plus, the generous portions leave you feeling fully satisfied.
4. Attraction #4: Stylish Antique-Inspired Interior

The interior of Spice Tree is decorated with antique-style furniture and ornaments, creating a cozy, exotic atmosphere.
The warm, inviting space feels like a little escape to another country.

The owner was friendly and approachable, making the space even more welcoming!

5. Attraction #5: Kid-Friendly with Special Children’s Menu
Moms will appreciate the **“Kids’ Plate (with mini drink)”** priced at ¥1,180.
The mild butter chicken is perfect for children, making it an excellent choice for family lunches.
