Today’s story is a little different from our usual café features.

When you hear “home-visit nursing,” what comes to mind?

Do you assume that hospitalization is the only option once regular visits become difficult? In fact, here in Hayama, there is another choice: living at home while receiving professional medical care.

Founded in September 2025 in Isshiki, Hayama, Nijiiro HOME NURSING is a home-visit nursing station established by Mayuko Kawaharazaki, a nurse born and raised in Hayama.

Today, I’d like to share their vision and work from the Hayama Navi perspective.

Attraction 1: A Hayama-Born Nurse Building Care for Her Community

Ms. Kawaharazaki is born and raised in Hayama. She previously worked at a heart center, supporting patients through discharge planning and post-hospital transitions.

When she asked herself, “How can I give back to my community?” the answer was clear: “Nursing is what I can offer.”

The station is located in her grandmother’s former home. Together with her colleagues, she renovated the space through DIY efforts and opened the station right here in Isshiki.

I truly felt how powerful it is to use your professional skills in the town where you grew up.

Their mission is to “provide care that protects each person’s individuality.” As a community-based nursing station, they support everyday life in Hayama.

Attraction 2: A “We Don’t Turn Anyone Away” Approach — From Babies to End-of-Life Care

Nijiiro HOME NURSING provides care for everyone from infants to the elderly (Source: Official Website).

Services include condition monitoring, daily life support, medical procedures, rehabilitation, and end-of-life care. Under a physician’s direction, medical procedures such as IV drips and suctioning can be provided at home.

As the baby boomer generation surpasses the age of 75, hospitals are expected to face increasing strain. That is why how safely and comfortably one can live in their own home is becoming ever more important.

In hospitals, the time allocated to each patient is limited. In home care, visits typically last 30 minutes to an hour—or sometimes longer. Having dedicated time for one individual makes a significant difference.

I was told that the frustration of “wanting to listen more but not having enough time” is far less common in home care.

Attraction 3: Insurance + Private Services to Make “It Would Be Nice If…” Possible

In addition to services covered by long-term care insurance and medical insurance, they also offer customized private (self-funded) nursing services (Source: Official Website).

These include accompaniment for outings such as travel or weddings, hospital visits and consultations, temporary overnight care, family respite support, and monitoring when caregivers are unavailable. They also operate a welfare vehicle that allows wheelchair users to travel safely.

Their concept is simple yet powerful: to turn “I wish this were possible” into reality. Their vision—to become a station that does not turn away requests—is especially memorable.

Attraction 4: The Choice to Spend Your Final Days as Yourself

For many years in Japan, passing away in a hospital was considered the norm. Today, however, there is another option: to spend your final days in your own home, in your own way.

Ms. Kawaharazaki shared that she hopes more people will simply know this choice exists.

Medical care is not only about curing illness—it is also about supporting daily life. That philosophy is at the heart of Nijiiro HOME NURSING.

When I heard the words “to remain in Hayama until the very end,” it truly moved me.

About the Team

Currently, the team consists of 4 nurses, 1 physical therapist, 1 occupational therapist, and 1 medical administrator (Source: Official Website). Experienced professionals work together to provide coordinated care.

Since opening in September 2025, they have gradually expanded their connections within the community.

Baby & Family Note

They also provide care for infants and mothers (Source: Official Website). Home support for children who require medical care is available upon consultation. While this is not a place for social gatherings, it can be a reassuring presence for families wondering, “What if my child needs medical support at home?”

For Local Business Owners

As the population ages, collaboration with healthcare services will become increasingly important in our communities. For local business owners, simply being aware of home-visit nursing services can be invaluable. Hayama Navi will continue introducing the essential infrastructure that supports daily life here.
