Looking for delicious sweets in Hayama? Look no further than Maron, a specialty tart shop.

Opened in 2018 and relocated in 2021, this shop sits conveniently along the main road while maintaining a loyal following. The secret? Perfectly crispy tart crusts paired with rich, creamy fillings.

Let’s dive into the irresistible charm of “Maron”!

Charm #1: Handmade Tarts – Freshly Baked & Limited in Quantity

All of Maron’s tarts are handmade in-store. The chef bakes them fresh each morning, so once they’re sold out, that’s it for the day!

I visited on Valentine’s Day, and as expected, many flavors were already gone. No surprise—it’s probably their busiest time of the year!

Here’s what I managed to grab:

  • Decadent Chocolate Ganache Tart (600 yen)
  • Crunchy Chocolate & Banana Cream Tart (780 yen)
  • Flan (Rich Custard Tart, 560 yen)

Each was delicious, but my favorite was the Chocolate Ganache Tart, made with Belgian chocolate and fresh Hokkaido cream for a deep, indulgent flavor.

Charm #2: A Haven for Cat Lovers – Cute Cat-Themed Decor

The shop is filled with adorable cat-themed decor—tail motifs on the walls, a cute cat mascot, and even cat-shaped treats!

One of the most popular items is:

  • “Hugging Cat” Almond Cookie (180 yen)
→ A crispy cookie featuring a tiny cat clutching an almond!

It’s an absolute must-visit for cat lovers!

Charm #3: More Than Just Tarts – Savory Quiches & Baked Goods

Maron isn’t just about tarts—they also offer savory quiches and baked goods that are just as popular.

One of their best-selling quiches is:

  • Chef’s Special Quiche (850 yen)
→ A luxurious blend of fresh Miura vegetables, salmon, and avocado.

Perfect for those who prefer savory treats over sweets!

Charm #4: A Cozy Atmosphere Created by a Husband-and-Wife Duo

Maron is a warm and welcoming tart shop run by a dedicated husband-and-wife team. The pastry chef, Kyoko Suruga, has years of experience and a keen eye for detail. After relocating the shop, her husband left his corporate job to join her, and now they run the business together, creating a friendly and inviting space for their customers.

When I visited, both of them greeted me warmly. Kyoko even came out from the kitchen to chat, proudly sharing, “I’m the one in charge of all the pastry-making here!”

In many husband-and-wife-run businesses, it’s often the husband who takes charge of the kitchen. However, at Maron, Kyoko’s meticulous attention to detail shines through, ensuring that each tart is crafted with elegance and precision.

From the delicate piping of the cream to the careful arrangement of the fruits, every tart at Maron looks like a tiny edible jewel.

The couple exudes a warm and approachable energy. During my visit, the husband casually struck up a conversation, asking, “Where are you from?” and eagerly shared insights about their tarts.

Meanwhile, regular customers kept stopping by, chatting with the owners like old friends.

Their personal approach and community-oriented atmosphere make Maron not just a shop but a beloved local treasure.

Baby & Kid-Friendly Notes

Maron is a takeout-only shop, meaning there are no indoor seating areas. However, their tarts and baked goods are perfect for enjoying at home or as gifts for friends and family. It’s an excellent choice for moms looking for a thoughtful treat to bring to a playdate or a get-together.

Pet-Friendly Info

Since it’s a takeout shop, you can grab your treats and enjoy them outdoors with your furry friend!
