Perfect for a Road Trip! A Family-Friendly Souvenir Paradise
Today, I took a short trip from Hayama to introduce a super popular drive destination in Odawara!
We stopped by Suzhiro Kamaboko-no-Sato, a famous spot for kamaboko (Japanese fishcake) on the way to Hakone. But it’s far from your average fishcake shop—it’s a full-on theme park with souvenirs, food, hands-on experiences, and sweets. Perfect for moms’ lunches and family visits!
I originally planned to just grab some quick souvenirs… but ended up buying way more than I expected! (Haha)

Highlight ①: The “Suzu-nari Market” Is a Must for Shopping!

If you’re driving through Odawara, your first stop should be Suzu-nari Market!
You’ll find freshly made kamaboko, fishcake treats, dried fish, sweets, lunch boxes, and more.
The most popular items? Freshly fried kamaboko made by artisans right before your eyes, and the try-and-taste “Kamaboko Bar”.

There were so many types of kamaboko, I seriously had a hard time choosing!
With seasonal packaging and unique items, this place is perfect for souvenirs or gifts.
I picked up the refreshing Shiso-Wrapped Kamaboko (¥864) and the spicy Nan-kotsu Age (¥260). When I brought them home, the family said, “These go great with beer!” and loved them!

Highlight ②: Famous Ohagi Sweets! Relax at Koyurugi Teahouse

Inside Suzu-nari Market is a charming sweets shop called Koyurugi Teahouse, where you can enjoy handmade fresh ohagi (rice cake sweets).
They offer two types of ohagi sets with locally grown tea—perfect for a relaxing break during your stroll.

Isn’t there something special about enjoying a sweet treat while traveling?
They also offer seasonal ohagi, so you’ll discover new flavors depending on the time of year!

Attraction ③: Learn & Create! The Kamaboko Museum is Perfect for Families

Within the grounds, you’ll find the incredible Kamaboko Museum!
This interactive facility offers insight into the history and crafting process of kamaboko, as well as fun hands-on workshops.
One of the highlights is the chance to make your own “chikuwa” or “agekama” fish cakes. Many families were participating with their children, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
It’s rare to find a place where you can create, learn, and eat all in one location!
For Families with Babies and Young Kids
The entire area is thoughtfully designed with flat walkways that are stroller-friendly—perfect for families with little ones.
From gift shops to cafes and activity areas, everything is family-friendly, and you’ll often see parents enjoying the outing with their children.
Dining areas are spacious, making it comfortable for families with small kids to relax and enjoy their meals.
Dog-Friendly Notes
There’s plenty of open-air space where dogs can accompany you, especially if you’re planning a break on the terrace.
However, please confirm with each facility directly if you plan to enter indoor areas with your pet.
