This time, I want to introduce you to a stylish new cafe in Hayama, “Cafe Baru Haraya“. It’s a brand-new establishment, and despite being so new, it’s already gathering a lot of local popularity. Let me share what makes this cafe so special.
Located in a quiet residential area of Hayama, “Cafe Baru Haraya” features a warm log-house exterior. The interior is decorated with wood accents that create a cozy atmosphere, and the wood-burning stove adds to the comfort. The cafe is not just about the great food, but also about the welcoming and relaxing vibe created by the couple who own it.

The cozy interior makes it impossible not to want to stay longer!

Attraction #1: Local Love in Curry and Coffee

One of the cafe’s major attractions is its signature curry, especially the “Butter Chicken Curry”, a delicious spice curry that Yoko-san has been perfecting. It uses fresh, local vegetables and has a perfect balance of tomato tanginess and buttery richness. The flavor is so rich that you’ll never get tired of eating it every day.

The butter chicken curry is so flavorful with the perfect mix of spices, but it’s easy to eat and incredibly delicious! It fills up your stomach and heart.
And the coffee is excellent too. Keita-san, the owner, handles the coffee-making. Using freshly roasted beans, he prepares espresso and lattes with great care.
In addition to the dishes, you can enjoy some homemade sweets, making your lunch experience even more satisfying.

Attraction #2: The Warm Atmosphere and the Couple’s Story

The biggest attraction of this cafe is undoubtedly the warm hospitality of the owners. The perfect harmony between Keita-san and Yoko-san is evident as they greet everyone in matching aprons. Keita-san is from Hayama, while Yoko-san hails from Hokkaido.
The couple truly cares about “Hayama’s local love”, and this is reflected in the natural conversations that arise with the regulars visiting the cafe. It’s no surprise that the cafe has become a hub for the community, with warm connections forming between guests.

I was so touched by how the couple talked with such joy. Even though it was my first time visiting, they made me feel so welcome and at home!
Attraction #3: The Cozy Vibe, Where Conversations Flow Naturally

The cafe has counter seats and table seating, making it an easy-going space where you can enjoy your time, whether alone or with friends. Conversations naturally flow with the owners, and connections between different groups of guests are often formed.
There’s even a story where separate guests, sitting at adjacent tables, hit it off and became a big group by the end of the evening. This kind of warmth and connection just naturally spreads in this cozy cafe.

Attraction #4: Featured on “Life’s Paradise”

Actually, this cafe was featured on the popular TV show “Life’s Paradise”! The episode aired in May 2024 and focused on the owners’ story, highlighting the warmth of their relationships and their new challenge in Hayama.
The show captured the story of Keita-san, a video engineer with over 30 years of experience, as he decided to return to his hometown of Hayama and start a new life. His dream of opening a cafe where everyone could gather in his hometown became a reality.

My dad in Hakuba watched the show and told me about this cafe! Thank you, Dad!☺️
Cafe Baru Haraya has naturally become a gathering spot for local people.
They also told us stories of neighbors visiting for a beer after taking a bath. It really has become a place for locals.
At the same time, it is a warm place for newcomers.
I wish I had a cafe-bar like this next door!

Unfortunately, there is no terrace, so dogs cannot be brought into the cafe.
