Hello there! This is Hayama-Navi, introducing wonderful stores and places in Hayama-town, Kanagawa prefecture. Please refer the website and come visit Hayama!

This time I would like to introduce “Cook and Dine Hayama,” a store in Hayama that is dedicated to iron pots and pans.

This is a store that is filled with the passion of the owner, Yamaguchi-san, who continues to convey how to enrich one’s diet with iron pots and other kitchen utensils.

The main store of “Cook and Dine Hayama” is located in Hayama, and there is also a store in Mitsui Outlet Park Yokohama Bayside. The Nagoya store just opened in April 2024, and it is a store with great momentum.

The owner, Yamaguchi-san, is famous as an “iron pot evangelist” and has been featured in various media.

The lineup of iron pots and pans is breathtaking, but there are also wood-burning stoves that go great with iron pots, stylish kitchen utensils you won’t find anywhere else, and carefully selected ingredients lined up in every nook and cranny.

It is a store where you can get excited just by looking at the food.

Introduction of “Cook and Dine Hayama” restaurant

Location

The store is located in a quiet residential area behind Morito Beach in Hayama Town. From Zushi Station, it is about a 15-minute drive or a 20-minute bus ride. The iron pots hanging from the sign are very cute ♡.

There is no station in Hayama, so transportation is by bus or car. We are happy to offer parking for about 4 cars in front of the restaurant. The streets in the residential area are quite narrow, so please be careful whether you drive or walk!

Establishment

Cook and Dine Hayama” celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2024. It is amazing that the restaurant has remained popular and expanded for such a long period of time here in Hayama.

The manager’s passion for iron pots and pans has spread to the customers, creating a large number of fans.

Store Attraction

Product Lineup

The attraction of “Cook & Dine Hayama” is the wide variety of iron pots and pans. The lineup includes a variety of manufacturers.

You will find iron pots and pans from famous manufacturers, Cook & Dine’s original iron frying pan “AOM,” and iron pots and pans made by iron masters.

The main attraction of this shop is that it offers not only iron pans, but also many other attractive products related to food.

In-depth knowledge based on love of iron pots

The biggest differentiator between the shop and the competitors is that the store is not only sell iron pots and pans, but also that their experienced staff, including Yamaguchi-san, know how to handle, care for, and maintain iron pots and pans, and provide products along with this knowledge.

Yamaguchi-san uses the products himself, and he has the conviction to pass on truly good tools to his customers. It is wonderful!

Local, customer-oriented

Cook and Dine Hayama” frequently holds cooking workshops and events to share the delicious taste of food prepared in iron pots and pans.

In particular, the “Handmade Bacon Lecture” has been held more than 100 times, and it has become a very popular event, with participants learning how to make delicious, authentic bacon in just 40 minutes using only pork, salt, and pepper! It has become a very popular event.

With such strong ties to the community and its fans, Cook and Dine Hayama is far different from small stores that simply sell kitchenware.

The owner, Yamaguchi-san

ぺり

The owner, Yamaguchi-san, went out of his way to meet me when i asked him to take a picture of the store! I had often seen him around, but this was the first time I had talked to him, so I was very happy. He told me about his passion for iron pots. ☺️

Yamaguchi-san, the founder of Cook and Dine Hayama, is a Hayama celebrity who has been featured in various media as an “iron pot evangelist.

The depth of his love for iron can be seen in the “Tetsu (iron in Japanese), a panel on display in his shop.

Tetsu has warmth,” he says, referring to the words of iron masters,
The panel says, “We want people to know more about the warmth of iron and, above all, the iron utensils that make food tasty.

Mr. Yamaguchi’s first encounter with an iron pot dates back several decades. He says that his life was changed when he enjoyed a simple dish made in a “Dutch oven” that tasted horribly delicious. He retired from the department store where he had worked for many years and founded “Cook and Dine Hayama.

I think that various turning points come to people. I see that Yamaguchi-san is motivated by his passion to enrich the lives of his customers through iron.

I want to find something I can be passionate about too!

Connection with iron craftsmen

Pictures of iron craftsmen are displayed in various places in the store. I could sense that this is a sign of Mr. Yamaguchi’s respect for them.

It is the mission of this store to evangelize their passion for turning iron into warm tools.

Media

Yamaguchi-san, a Hayama celebrity, has been featured in so many media.

On TV, he has appeared on Tokoro-san’s show, NHK’s “Morning First”, TBS’s “Lavit! magazine, “dancyu”, and even appeared on FM Yokohama. He has been active in a wide range of fields.

He has been spreading the word about the iron pot from Hayama to the rest of Japan. ☺️

Introduction of “Cook and Dine Hayama” products

Cook and Dine Hayama” has so many food-related kitchen goods that we can’t introduce them all.

For more details, please check the store’s website! You can also buy online, but we recommend that you visit the store in Hayama where you can actually hold the products in your hands and see them for yourself!

Below is an excerpt of what I buy and use.

ぺり

I myself have visited “Cook and Dine Hayama” more than 10 times and have made many purchases. Every time I go, I always find something new to buy. They are all useful in various scenes in my kitchen, living room, and entryway.

Pretty items I purchased.

Lots of cute items! I brought them home. (just a few of them)

Iron pans

Various types of iron pots and pans, including Dutch ovens, are lined up on the shelves. It is hard to know which one to choose, but experienced staff will assist you if you have any doubts.

They have the best iron pot and frying pan options for different purposes.

I purchased a “thin Dutch oven” at this store that can be used with the fish grill pictured below.
As the name suggests, you simply line this cute little thin pan with a variety of ingredients and place it on the fish grill for amazingly delicious food.

I was able to grill juicy chicken far beyond what I had imagined, and flaky baked edamame beans with ease. This is a product that gives you the charm of an iron pan at a reasonable price. Highly recommended!

Kitchenware Wooden warmth products

There are many kitchenware made of wood in the restaurant. There are wood plates for boldly serving meat, olive wood cutting boards, original coasters, and more.

I bought three olive wood cutting boards and plates and a stylish wooden accessory case. The wooden plates are stylish and functional, allowing me to cut my food and put it on the table as is. And I use the wooden knickknacks as a key holder.

We love them all at home.

Specialty Ingredients

Cook & Dine Hayama is particular about the ingredients that complement the kitchenware, and has a section of rare ingredients that are not found in other stores.

We stock up every time we visit the store. Among them, there is a good selection of olive oils.

The Spanish smoked olive oil that they recently started selling is said to be very popular! It is also excellent on vegetables. Mr. Yamaguchi even wrote, “It’s so good, it gives me goose bumps.

I haven’t tried it yet and will definitely buy it next time!

A wide variety of other kitchenware

There are so many other kitchenware items that I can’t even begin to introduce them all. Here are two items that I personally purchased.

First is the small size colander in the upper left corner of the photo. It is a small size colander, about 14 cm in diameter, and is used when you want to wash or dry small things. According to the store’s website, it seems to be used for smoking, but I use it exclusively for washing and drying small items. It’s convenient!

Another thing I recently bought and was very impressed with is a bread knife that is specially designed for cutting bread.

ぺり

I love bread, but I have never owned a knife dedicated to bread cutting in my life. Whenever I cut bread in half, the bread was always dented less than half. What a surprise! With this knife, I can cut the fluffy cross section of the croissant as it is. It is one of the best purchases I have made this year.

Relaxing eat-in fireplace

Cook and Dine Hayama” also offers a fireplace for purchase, but those who find a fireplace at home too much of a challenge can buy beer or tea at the store’s eat-in restaurant and enjoy it while relaxing in the fireplace space.

In winter, they light the fireplace and you can enjoy our special Yokohama Lager Pale Ale in the space set up in front of it! It is a superb space.

Baby and child note

The store is spacious. The aisles of the store are relatively wide, so you can put a baby carriage in there, but there are many small items, so if you are worried, you can leave your baby carriage in the large space outside and enjoy shopping.

There are sofas in the eat-in area, so you can relax there.

The parking lot is right in front of the store, so access is great.
