Have you ever had one of those days around Hayama where you think, “I just want a proper, satisfying meal today”?

With family, with mom friends, or on a walk with your dog—there’s a place that comes to mind in the middle of everyday life.

Today, I’m introducing a long-loved set-meal spot in the Zushi–Kotsubo area: Meshiya Yacchan.

It’s right near popular sights, but still feels local—casual, yet carefully made. That balance is what makes it special.

Right by Kotsubo Fishing Port — A Place That Tastes Like the Harbor Town Itself

Meshiya Yacchan is a set-meal restaurant located between Kotsubo Fishing Port and Zushi Marina.

And true to this area, the menu centers on seafood—creating a table that feels like everyday life in a harbor town.

The dining area is spacious, and service is quick. Even when there’s a line, the turnover is fast—so it often feels like “we didn’t wait as long as we expected.”

Highlight 1: Set Meals Built Around Fish Landed at Kotsubo—Every Single Day

At the heart of Meshiya Yacchan’s cooking is seafood landed at Kotsubo Fishing Port, brought in day by day.

Because the catch changes with the season and the weather, the menu shifts too—depending on what’s been sourced that day.

Fresh shirasu (whitebait), local octopus, and fish from Sagami Bay.

Nothing has to be overly complicated—the ingredients are simply good.

That’s why the sashimi set, rice bowls, and even fried dishes all come with the same sense of “you can’t really go wrong.”

One of the fun parts of coming here is thinking, “I wonder what they got in today?”

Highlight 2: The Famous Kakiage Donburi — And the Spirit Behind “Yacchan”

The first time you see it, you can’t help but stare—the signature kakiage donburi piled like a tower.

Fritters packed with squid, octopus, shrimp, and vegetables are stacked generously on top.

It’s not just about the visual impact, either.

What stood out to me was how light it feels, with a crisp bite that doesn’t come off as heavy or greasy.

This bowl made me think of one simple idea:

to serve seafood in a way that feels easy to enjoy—yet still truly satisfying.

That’s the kind of approach you can sense from the owner, Mr. Yasuda (nicknamed “Yacchan”).

The kakiage donburi comes in three sizes: Extra-large 1,800 yen, Regular 1,300 yen, and Small 1,000 yen.

I ordered the small size—and it still looked like a tower! Honestly, anything larger takes real commitment. For many people, I’d recommend the small size.

Attraction ③: A perfectly balanced local diner between tourism and everyday life

Meshi Yacchan sits right between the small fishing port of Kotsubo and the resort atmosphere of Zushi Marina.

It is a place where tourists and locals naturally cross paths.

It feels more relaxed than a trendy tourist hotspot,

yet a bit more thoughtful and refined than an ordinary neighborhood diner.

A stop during a coastal drive or motorcycle ride,

a casual lunch after spending time at the marina,

or a slightly late weekday lunch.

You’ll often see families visiting from the nearby marina or local mom groups here. The quick service is a big plus for families with young children.

Attraction ④: Sincerity over flashiness

The food comes out quickly, but never feels careless.

The portions are generous, yet everything is prepared with care.

Meshi Yacchan is,

a place that turns the everyday life of a port town into a proper set meal.

It may not be a destination for special occasions,

but it leaves you with that quiet satisfaction of thinking, “I’m glad I came here today.”

Whether you’re sightseeing or simply going about your daily life, this is a place you can confidently recommend.
