This time, let us introduce you to “STYLE,” a place that has become known for its surprisingly affordable 500 yen lunches and heartwarming stories baked into every pie.

But this isn’t just any pie shop.

Located in a quiet residential area of Hayama, this cafe also serves as a Type B Continuous Employment Support facility, and embodies the warmth and hospitality of its owner couple.

You might find yourself thinking:

“Why does it feel so cozy here?”

“Can they really offer this quality at these prices?”

If so, we invite you to discover the story behind this special place.

Highlight #1: A 500 Yen Lunch That’ll Make You Smile

The lunch set is just 500 yen (tax included).

Choose any two types of pie-ini (STYLE’s original pressed pies) and a drink—either coffee or rooibos tea.

We tried the soy-meat based “Meat Pie-ini” and the “Bacon Potato Cheese Pie-ini”—

each one crisped to perfection on a special grill, delivering warm, savory satisfaction with every bite.

In a place like Hayama, this price is almost unheard of.

But behind it lies a genuine wish from the owners: to create a space that you’ll want to visit again and again.

If this was in my neighborhood, I’d be here every week!

Highlight #2: A Support Facility Hidden Behind the Counter

STYLE isn’t just a cafe—its second floor functions as a Type B Continuous Employment Support facility.

In Japan, this system provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities or chronic illnesses, offering flexibility in hours and pace without the pressure of formal employment contracts. Workers earn compensation in the form of “wages for production activities” (kouchin) and engage in tasks suited to their individual abilities.

In a local FM radio interview, STYLE’s representative Seiichi Takano explained:

“We don’t see disability—we see individual needs. Some come five days a week, others just for a few hours. Everyone’s rhythm matters.”

As of the radio interview in 2023, about 11 people with various disabilities were working at STYLE, doing everything from pie-making to accessory crafting, packaging, or flyer distribution. The environment encourages everyone to shine in their own way.

And yet, STYLE doesn’t loudly advertise this identity as a welfare facility.

“First and foremost, we want people to enjoy this place as a cafe. Then, if they’re curious, we can share more about what we do.”

This philosophy is deeply touching. There are no signs at the storefront about its support facility nature—I myself had no idea until later. Instead, they let their warm hospitality and delicious pies speak for themselves.

Attraction #3: A Wide Variety of Freshly Baked Pies

The signature item at STYLE is their freshly baked pies. Their famous apple pies, called “Couple Pies,” are designed to form a heart shape when two are placed together. Other varieties include chocolate banana, sweet red bean & butter, meat pies, rhubarb pies, and limited seasonal offerings like roasted sweet potato pies made with Beniharuka sweet potatoes. Whether savory or sweet, every pie is handmade with care, offering a simple yet deeply satisfying flavor. Choosing just one is the hardest part!

Attraction #4: The Luxurious Yet Heartfelt Hayama Beef Pie

Among STYLE’s offerings, the Hayama Beef Pie stands out as a premium treat. It features locally raised Hayama beef from Ishii Farm, known for its carefully managed, humane farming practices. Despite its luxurious contents, this pie is affordably priced at 650 yen—a reflection of STYLE’s mission to be an accessible, community-rooted cafe. You might find yourself wondering, “Can they really afford to sell this at such a price?” But the answer lies in their philosophy: to welcome everyone with warmth, not profit margins.
